Camp Fircom is a not for profit organization

all of the proceeds go to subsidizing kids camps throughout the year

Camp Fircom rests on one of the southeastern "fingers" of the island with great views of the North Shore Mountains to the east and Bowen Island to the south. There is plenty to do at the camp such as: kayak, hike, archery or fishing (with a license), swim, or just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Camp Fircom's purpose is to provide the opportunity for people to form a healthy, sustainable community in nature. As the facility is entirely off-the-grid, the camp generates its own power, has its own water supply, and maintains its own septic and waste systems.  Please keep this energy and water conservation in mind during our stay....but don't worry, there is cell reception.

Yes, we're getting married on an island!

Water taxi information

We have scheduled water taxis to transport our guests to and from Gambier Island for the weekend. The water taxi ride is 20 min from Sunset Marina to Camp Fircom.

  • Departing Location: Sunset Marina (34 Sunset Beach, West Vancouver, BC V7W 2T7)

  • Departing Times: Friday, September 28th at 3pm, 4:30pm and 7pm

  • Returning Times: Sunday, September 30th at 10am, 11am, and 12pm

Sunset Marina in Lion's Bay is accessible by car and parking is more readily available and less expensive. The marina is located approximately 5km past the Horseshoe Bay Ferry terminal travelling North on the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Sunset marina is not accessible by public transit.

You can find a map to Sunset Marina here

We highly suggest budgeting extra time for traffic over the bridge on the Friday!

ONCE you've reached gambier island...

Camp Fircom is a short 5 min walk from the drop-off dock. There are very limited "roads" on Gambier Island and the Camp Fircom staff will be waiting on the dock ready to move luggage into your accommodations. For those with mobility concerns, a golf cart will be arranged to assist with travel around the facility for the weekend.

Accommodation at Camp Fircom

Channel your inner kid and get ready for a weekend away at summer camp!

We would love to have you all stay with us at Camp Fircom on Friday and Saturday night. We look forward to having family and friends together to spend quality time enjoying each other’s company and getting to know one another. Plus, we would love to see your smiling faces every morning!

There are a variety of accommodations at Camp Fircom with the majority of guests staying in the Cozy Cabins for the true camp experience! We ask that you bring your own sleeping bag and pillow, but don’t worry, we got you covered on the earplugs so you don’t have to worry about Snoring Susan.  For those of you who don’t have a sleeping bag and pillow, there are a limited amount of linen sets available for a $20 fee, including clean sheets, pillow, duvet, and towel.  These will be provided on a first come, first serve basis - so make sure to select the 'Linens' option in your RSVP if you're interested.

The Craigcroft building will be reserved for the Aunts and Uncles while the The Farm House & The Cottage will be for a few select immediate family members. These accommodations come complete with all required linens so you just need to show up with a smile on your face!

When you RSVP,  we will do our best to place everyone with friendly, familiar faces surrounding them!

Food and Drink

Not Spaghetti and Meatballs Every Night...

Our food for the weekend will be catered by the wonderful team at Camp Fircom with local produce grown from the farm on-site. This won't be your average camp food. You are welcome to bring your own snacks for between meals or after dinner on Friday.  Food can be stored in the Craigcroft kitchen. Meals will include:

  • A taco fiesta welcome dinner on Friday night

  • Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday

  • Breakfast on Sunday

Non-alcoholic drinks will include water, juice, coffee and tea during meal times. Beer, wine and spirits will be available for purchase.

Attire

Wear whatever makes you comfortable during the weekend!

Keep in mind there will be time to enjoy land and sea activities and at night it might get chilly while sitting by the campfire. We'd suggest a pair of swim trunks, some warm pieces for at night, and shorts/tee's for the daytime.

For the actual ceremony and reception, we want to keep it fancy. Please bring something nice to wear.  No, unfortunately no Hawaiian shirts with flowers on them.

Most importantly, keep in mind we are on the Pacific West Coast and we very well could have rain for some, or all, of the weekend. Please pack some rain-friendly clothes that will keep you dry, warm, and comfortable.

What's included in the package price?

This is a "destination" island wedding so we decided to take the time on the front end to plan everyone’s experience for the weekend. Less time planning and more time being present and enjoying the festivities!

What's exactly covered then?

  • 2 nights accommodation in 1 of 3 types of traditional cabin-style housing. These will be determined based on RSVP numbers and family & friend preferences.

  • 5 full meals (Friday night—Sunday morning) and snacks throughout the weekend. A reception dinner on Saturday night will be provided by the bride and groom. Final menu TBD, but the camp will cater to vegetarians, vegans, or those with food allergies. Just make sure to include your preference in your RSVP form.

  • Non-alcoholic beverages (Friday night—Sunday morning). Juice, pop, sparkling water, coffee and tea will be provided for guests for the weekend.

  • Alcoholic beverages! Friday night we will be providing an assortment of draught beer and wine which will be available by donation to our guests. Saturday night we will be providing an assortment of draught beer, wine, and mixed cocktails available for purchase. Drink tickets can be purchased for $2, but remember, there are no ATM's on the island, so please bring some cash!

  • Water taxi round trip: a boat ride from Horseshoe Bay or Sunset Marina to Gambier Island and back to the mainland after the weekend. Parking at Sunset Marina or Horseshoe Bay is an extra fee charged at a daily rate and is not included.

Please make e-transfers payable to mat_barker85@hotmail.com alongside your RSVP!  If you're paying by credit card please use our Paypal account here.

What should I bring?

There are no stores on Gambier, so we encourage you to pack everything you will want and need. Here's a list to get you started:

  • Your own pillow/sleeping bag if you are staying in the cabins. Unless you are renting a linen set (let us know in your RSVP)

  • Flashlight or headlamp (a phone flashlight works too)

  • Wedding attire

  • Swimsuit

  • Towel

  • Sunscreen/hat

  • Snacks or preferred food and drink

  • Indoor slippers, water shoes (the beach is rocky), running shoes and/or hiking shoes, and flip flops.

  • Bug spray

  • RAIN GEAR (nobody is comfortable in wet clothes)

  • Warm clothes for the cool evenings

  • Fireside/Campfire apparel

  • Any hobbies, activities and musical instruments are welcome and encouraged!

  • Toiletries - toothbrush/paste, deodorant, soap and shampoo.

Are Kids Invited?

We would love to be able to invite everyone and their family to share the day with us, however, due to capacity restrictions we will not be inviting children under the age of 16 for the weekend. We understand how difficult it can be to find child care and we promise to make it up to you with an unforgettable weekend!

Can I rent my own ACCOMMODATIONS? (air b&b)

Unfortunately there are no public roads connecting Camp Fircom to the rest of Gambier island so you will be unable to rent your own accommodations outside the camp and drive in for the wedding.

If sleeping in a bunk cabin isn't your thing, you are also free to bring your own private tent or stay in one of the camp's 8 person Sibley tents.

Can i bring my boat?

Absolutely! If you have access to a boat, feel free to bring it for the weekend.  You can use the main dock at Fircom to unload your gear, however, you will not be able to tie your boat up at the dock overnight.  Space is limited and local residents require it for overnight use.

If you're bringing your boat, you will need to drop anchor in Halkett Bay and take a dinghy in to shore at Canoe Cove.  Feel free to sleep on your boat as well, just be careful paddling back out after the party!

Should I Bring a Gift?

No, please do not bring any gifts to the island! What we really want is for our family and friends to be together for our big day! We realize that many of you are traveling from far away to share in our weekend and believe your presence at our wedding is a gift in and of itself.

For those who would still like to give a gift, please refer to our Registry page for a list of items we will be hoping to purchase for our home in the near future.

Is There Anything Else I Should Consider?

Below is some information from Camp Fircom. Please take these items into consideration prior to joining us on our big day!

  • Saturday morning is time to enjoy camp: canoeing, kayaking, archery, paddle-boarding, hiking, crafting etc. Bring the right clothes for what you like to do.

  • All buildings are shoes-off areas, including the Dining Hall (with the exception of during the wedding reception). Feel free to bring clean in-door slippers.

  • Pack It In, Pack It Out – All garbage and recycling must be taken with us at the end of the weekend. Please keep this in mind if you're bringing extra items.

  • Pack as lightly as you can while making sure you will be happy and comfortable for the weekend. Space is limited on the water taxi.

  • If bringing your own beer/alcohol please bring cans or plastic bottles - not glass.

  • On Sunday, there is a farmers market to take home yummy, local organic produce and Fircom baked goodies (cash or credit card accepted by Fircom)

  • Sports equipment is available on site: croquet, bocce, volleyball, soccer, frisbees, etc.
